Mama & Baby — looking for a home!
This is the story of a mama dog, who lived on the streets of Puerto Penasco, alone and hungry for the majority of her life.
Read the heartbreaking story of mama and her astounding turnaround.
She was lucky to be at Barb's —
no suffering, no hunger, no ill treatment — but three of her puppies did not pull through. But there was one baby, a fighter like her mama that survived.
As a new mama,
with a litter of puppies, hungry and desperate, she went into somebody's yard, looking for something to eat. A man, with a machete, came out of the house and brutally chopped off her foot. But that was not enough. Her painful screams, her desperate attempt at running away did not deter the man from pouring scalding hot water on her back. With her back burnt to the bone and with her "amputated" foot, she managed to escape and run back to her puppies. Her screams were so hair-raising, that a couple of homeless men, came to see what this horror was. They found this gruesome picture of a brand new mom, bleeding to death, and acted the best they knew how. They wrapped her hurt leg with a T-shirt and poured cold water over her back. And somehow, with the minimal amount of care and food, this strong mama pulled through and survived her horrendous ordeal.
She eventually healed and survived the streets of Puerto Penasco. She continued to get pregnant over the years and had many, many litters, which added to the painful situation of homeless dogs.
She was discovered a year and a half ago by a good Samaritan and mama's salvation began. The homeless men, who had once saved her life, many years before, were instrumental in catching this petrified mama. So, once again, their actions allowed this precious soul to find her path to safety. This time, she would be safe forever. She was taken to Barb's Dog Rescue, where she would be taken care of and she would never be hungry or hurt again. She was brought to Barb's with two puppies, from her last litter, who were around five months old. The puppies were quite feral, but quite healthy. The two babies have since been adopted and are living the American dream (spayed and fully vaccinated, of course!).
But life was not meant to become altogether easy for this incredible animal. She was pregnant again. She had been at Barb's around three weeks, when all of a sudden, she is found in the company of four brand new babies. She was lucky to be at Barb's - no suffering, no hunger, no ill treatment — but in spite of her good fortune, three of her puppies did not pull through. But there was one baby, a fighter like her mama that survived.
The story of survival of this brave, lonely, hungry, hurt animal is more than remarkable. Her story is worth telling, so maybe, somewhere out there, mama and her only surviving baby, will find their own forever home, where they will live and thrive together for the remainder of this amazing mama's life.
